Alberta Curling Federation: U-18 (Juvenile) Provincial Championship Amendments

 

Discussion at the Alberta Curling Federation Annual General Meeting resulted in an amended U-18 Motion being presented as follows:

To be presented for final approval at the upcoming ACF General Meeting.

 

MOTION:  17AGM10, as amended

                       

U-18 (Juvenile) Provincial Championship:

 

That the Alberta U-18 (Juvenile) Provincial Championship be amended as follows.

A.    By qualifying 8 teams per gender;

B.    By utilizing a triple knockout format, with an added consolation event, to guarantee a minimum of four games per participating team in each gender;

C.    By administering a true page playoff, to determine a champion in each gender.

 

And further, that items A through C above be approved under the following guidelines:

 

1.     Under item A, the 8 teams (per gender) are selected as follows.

a.     2 traditional berths are awarded to each of the 3 regional associations;

b.     1 berth is awarded to the winner of a selected gender-specific juvenile bonspiel affiliated with the Alberta Junior Curling Tour.  In the event a team declines this bonspiel berth, it is awarded to the next highest ranked team in that event.

c.     The remaining 1 berth is awarded to the regional association with the highest number of overall entries, per gender, in the same championship season.

 

2.     Under item B, the teams competing will be seeded based on ranking ballots completed by each team in advance of the competition.  The draw and special rules respecting practices, stone color selection and determination of first-end hammer will be finalized well in advance and form an Appendix to the U18 Championship in the Competitor Guide.  Generally, this Appendix will mirror that of the current Provincial Mens and Womens Championship.

 

3.     Under item C, the Page Playoff format shall be as follows.

a.     The two C Event qualifiers will playoff in game CH #1.  The winner advances to the semi-final (CH#3); the loser is eliminated.

b.     The A and B Event qualifiers will playoff in game CH#2.  The winner advances to the championship final (CH#4); the loser drops to the semi-final (CH#3).

c.     The winners of game CH#2 and semi-final game CH#3 will playoff in the final (CH#4) to determine a champion. 

d.     The playoff draw and special rules respecting playoff meetings, practices, stone color/selection and determination of first-end hammer will be finalized well in advance and form an Appendix to the U18 Championship in the Competitor Guide.  Generally, this Appendix will mirror that of the current Provincial Mens and Womens Championship.

 

And further, that the Alberta U-18 (Juvenile) Championship be completed over no more than four days.
